Montmartre: Music, Love Affairs and Lunch

€190.00

Montmartre has a good story on every corner. From Roman village to feathered Cancan cabarets, via poverty and painters, revolution and restaurants - but today Montmartre hides behind hordes of tourists. It’s the second most visited site in Paris - the crowds are real. Souvenir shops rub shoulders with tourist traps, guided groups follow flags down narrow cobblestone streets. We don’t do any of that.

At Encyclopedia of Paris, we see the icons without the crowds. We visit both the celebrated and the unique off-the-beaten-path establishments which help us tell the story of our beloved Montmartre.

Join us in Montmartre

  • Our first stop is the Musée de Montmartre, complete with stunning views, private gardens, and a 19th century artist’s studio, preserved in time. Teeming with stories, this spot is a must-visit to understand the history of the hill.

On a walking tour of hidden Montmartre, where we avoid the crowds but see the icons, we’ll see the Sacré-Coeur from a quiet spot, and weave our way to some hidden Roman treasures, through the village to lunch.

Montmartre’s history is inextricably entwined with food, drink, and dancing on tables. We’ll do the first two in a local restaurant, where the food and wine is responsibly and locally sourced. While seated, we’ll have enough time to cover the famous historical restaurants and bars, the winemaking of Montmartre and the historical food production of the hill over a casual three-course lunch with a glass of wine.

With full bellies, we’re taking you somewhere totally secret. A small collection of sound machines and gramophones, dating from Montmartre’s heyday in the 1880s to today, you’ll hear how the sound of Montmartre has changed. We hand over to an expert musician and collector, who’ll take us through the stories of the incredible machines we’re hearing.

Lastly, because Montmartre is all about decadence and exceptional views, we’ll finish with a rooftop cocktail, and a panoramic view of the city.
